The transition from clinical practice to nursing education can be overwhelming and cause culture shock to experienced nurses. Strong clinical nurses are often unaware of the numerous responsibilities when they join a faculty. The college/program should have a structured mentoring program in place to proactively assist novice faculty to make this transition. Using a SMP can reduce turnover and improve satisfaction for the novice educator. The presenters will discuss a program and mentorship used at their college.

Learning Objectives:

  1. The learner will be able to define a structured mentoring program.
  2. The learner will be able to identify the Novice Nurse Educator Competencies developed by the National League for Nursing.
  3. The learner will be able to create a collaborative agreement between mentor and mentee.
  4. The learner will be able to design and implement a nursing faculty orientation program.
  5. The learner will able to evaluate the effectiveness of a faculty orientation program.
