403 - Bring Competency-Based Education to life through Simulation
Nursing Education is in a paradigm shift from a focus on curriculum structures and processes that drive teaching and learning to now one of competencies. Simulation and experiential learning will be powerful teaching tools in defining the path towards competency-based education (CBE). This interactive session will engage participants to explore the concept of competency-based education by actively achieving a competency during the session. Participants will align benchmarks, milestones, and formative assessments to simulation activities that support learner development in building competency.
By the end of this presentation the participants will gain understanding of how different simulation-based learning activities can be scaffolded to provide leveled, standardized learning experiences, and formative feedback to help learners demonstrate competence. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and share current challenges in their programs as they navigate the shift to competency-based education and work to evaluate competency in undergraduate nursing.
Learning Objectives:
Engage attendees to view the shift of competency-based education from both a learner and educator lens.
Facilitate a dialogue that acknowledges learner and educator challenges.
Inspire a pathway utilizing simulation-based strategies that build toward a competency-based trajectory.
