Dr. Underwood Smith has been a registered nurse for 33 years, with the majority of her clinical experience in perioperative and emergency nursing, along with 24 years in postsecondary nursing education. She has held positions as dean, director or faculty at all undergraduate levels of nursing education and is the recipient of several awards for innovation and excellence in teaching. Her primary research focus has been on student retention and success, including intrusive interventions for high-risk students. Ann also has extensive experience in both college and programmatic accreditation, program evaluation, and curriculum development and has been focusing on these areas in her role as a nursing education consultant with ATI for the past 6 years.
