Dr. Kimberly Wiegand is nursing education leader with over 28 years of experience dedicated to advancing the nursing profession and developing a skilled workforce. As the Assistant Vice President for Nursing at Ivy Tech Community College, the largest community college associate degree nursing program in the nation, she oversees academic rigor and quality, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of the healthcare sector.
Her career spans a range of roles, including overseeing multiple health careers programs, serving as a clinical nurse resource educator at a Magnet-designated medical center, and leading faculty in associate degree, practical nursing and baccalaureate nursing programs. Clinically, she has expertise in medical-surgical nursing, geriatric care, and community and family health, which she integrates into her leadership to enhance nursing education and practice.
Dr. Wiegand has extensive experience in curriculum design, program assessment, and accreditation. A strong advocate for innovative teaching, she has been instrumental in integrating virtual and simulation-based learning into nursing programs, providing students with hands-on, realistic experiences crucial for clinical competence.
Her leadership extends to professional organizations, where she serves as a board member of the Indiana Center for Nursing and the Community Health Partnerships of Indiana. Additionally, she is a member of the iLab Healthcare Steering Committee for Apprenticeships, helping to create innovative models for healthcare education. Dr. Wiegand is actively involved in the National League for Nursing (NLN), the Indiana League for Nursing, the Indiana Organization of Nurse Leaders (IONL), and the Indiana State Nurses Association.
In her role as Chair of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) Research Committee, Dr. Wiegand promotes research activites aimed at improving associate degree nursing education. She is also a member of the OADN Member Engagement Task Force, supporting member involvement and engagement within the organization.
Dr. Wiegand holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Northern Kentucky University (2020) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Olivet Nazarene University (2003), with a focus on Community and Family Health.
