Ms. Smart been a nurse educator for over 30 years at Delgado Community College. She has a passion for helping students to be successful. Another passion is mentoring new faculty as they transition to the role as educator. A true highlight of her professional career was induction into the Academy of Associate Degree Nursing as a fellow in November, 2022. She has been certified by NLN as a Certified Nurse Educator for fifteen years.
In June of 2020, Ms. Smart changed to an administrative position in the college. This role includes being responsible for coordinating the three courses in the second level and communicating with ten fulltime faculty and six to ten part time faculty. There are approximately 150-180 students in the level.
Ms. Smart has given national, state and local presentations on various topics in nursing education and clinical practice. She has published in numerous professional publications.
She has been an individual member for OADN for many years and served as the president from 2014-2016 and then served on the board for the OADN Foundation from 2017 to 2022. Ms. Smart has attended OADN conventional annually since 2004 and enjoys networking with colleagues about the rewards and challenges when being a part of associate degree nursing education.
