Dr. Umebayashi is the Vice Provost for the School of Health Sciences at Dallas College.
Dr. Umebayashi received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Midwestern State University and his Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Walden University. His primary project was to produce highly effective medical teams achieving safe and quality patient care. He has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare and higher education. Before coming to Dallas College, he served as the Dean of Nursing and inaugural Director of Vocational Nursing at Tarrant County College (TCC). There, he led the programs through a successful accreditation, developed the Vocational Nursing, Medical Assisting, and Patient Care Technician Programs, and started the Bilingual Nursing Program.
Dr. Umebayashi believes fostering civility is a key to enhancing relationships with people. He shows an attitude of value for the person, acknowledges the value of others’ contributions, listens carefully, and communicates respectfully. In addition, he has been focusing on developing policies and programs to attract, retain, and promote inclusiveness and diversity. He established the Nursing Equity Program to increase the diversity of the nursing workforce.
Dr. Umebayashi has worked in collaboration with local and state organizations and groups. He currently serves on the Cuidado Casero Foundation Board, the North Texas Area Community Health Center Board, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Nursing Shortage Reduction Program Committee.
