Dr, Jennifer "Jenna" Lloyd Fisher currently serves as the Vice President of Clinical Excellence for Ascend Learning. In this role she is responsible for coupling domain expertise with market research and insights to identify and artuculate requirements for solutions that support academic and provider healthcare markets. Her work focuses on addressing recruitment, retention, and ongoing educational needs of healthcare teams. In this role Dr. Fisher collaborates with all healhcare verticals to inform, guide, and leveage existing capabilities and guide strategic planning, business case development, and commercialization of products to support existing and new markets. Dr. Fisher collaborates with senior leaders across the Unisted States to research, innovate, and design solutions that mee the needs of healthcare education in academic and practice settings. In her previous role she was Vice President, Chief Nursing Informationcs Officer & Clincial Excellence for a Magnet designated healthcare system.
Dr. Fisher's diverse 25 plus year career has lead to a unique skill set to lead with a people centric approach. She had the honor of leading teams to establish the clinical excellence department. She has expertise in leading interprofessional teams, in desgining processes and workflows to ensure integration of evidence-based best practice in care delivery and architecting that design and in architecting that desgin into information systesm across the healtchare system. This process led to improved quality outcomes even in the face of the pandemic. Dr. Fisher is passionate about people, processes, and technoogy and leading interprofessional teams focused on the clinician, patient and community. She has launched transition to practice programs for New Graduate Nurse Residency to support new graduates and supported recruitment and retention efforts. These diverse professsional experiences have led her to being a dynamic leader with a skill set that encoumpasses advanced clinical practice, academic/practice professional development, quality, and informatics expertise.
Dr. Fisher worked as a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner for more than 11 years. Her passion for informatics was the result of early EHR adoption. She led effots to desing evidence-based workflows and architected the workflows into the EHR to support clinicians needs and ensure quality care. She went on to serve as a NP and Clinical Liasison in ambulatory informatics, while also working as an adjunct clinical faculty at the University of Lynchburg. In 2014 Dr. Fisher became the Director of the School of Nursing and Assistant Professor at the University of Lynchburg. She was responsbile for strategic effots including program growth, achieved 100% first time pass rates, improved retention to 94% and led the program through 3 different accreditation visits.
During her tenure, the SON achieved increased program growth, increased NCLEX pass rates, increased retention rates, reaccredditiation of undergraduate and graduate programs, state accreditation, incureased use of simulation, and achieved designation as an Apple Distinguished Progra (being only the secong SON in teh US to achieve this designation). In 2018, she returned to the healthcare system to become the inagural Chief Nursing Informatics Officer to lead the healthcare system through an enterprise EHR deployment.
Dr. Fisher earned a Post-Doctorate Miller Fellow - Chief Nursing Executive Certificate ('23) from Case Western Reserve University, Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Virginia ('12), a Master of Sciend in Nursing (FNP), and a Master of Science in the Management of Information & Technology (McIntire School of Commerce) from the University of Virginia ('02 & '13), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Lynchburg ('99).
Dr. Fisher is a member of ACHE, ALSN, AONL, ANA, ANPD, AHA, and Sigma. She serves on regional and national boards including The Free Clinic of Central Virginia, The community Access Networ, The Centra Foundation, and the Virginia Nursing Association Wokforce Issues Council, President, VNA Hill City.
She works tirelessly to blend the art and science of leadership, clinician, and technology to innovate in this field that she believes is truly an honor to be a part of and serve.
